Motown: made for the remix

These two Motown-inspired songs are screaming to be revived, remixed, and reincarnated in an electronic body of music.

Mike James Kirkland’s “Hang on in there” is classy, soulful, and radiates good vibrations. It reminds me of those prepubescent days of basically living in the pool, chlorine and sunbeam soaked, listening to old school classics like The Four Top’s “Bernadette”, The Spinner’s “I’ll be around”, and Al green’s “Let’s stay together”.

Off of Om Records, King Kooba’s “California suite” rivals 70’s R&B with it’s twentieth century funk downbeat take on Motown, with occasional deep breaks and summery undertones.
